About Miss Reynoso

Susana Reynoso was born on February 26, 1967 in the small town of Teocaltiche, Jalisco in México. Her family moved in and around the East Los Angeles and Boyle Heights area during her childhood. She had six siblings; 3 of which are teachers. She attended Belvedere and Sheridan Elementary, Hollenbeck Junior School and Roosevelt High School - Go Rough Riders!

As a student at Hollenbeck Junior School, Susana participated in sports (volleyball, softball, basketball, flag football, track & field) and ran for the Junior Olympics.  At Roosevelt High School, she was a member of the Cross-Country and Track teams.  She was also involved in Student Council/Leadership. After graduating from Roosevelt, Susana attended Pasadena City College with her brother Gustavo. They spent many nights studying together and ended up graduating the same year. Susana transferred to College of Notre Dame (CND) and became the first in her family to graduate from college. She went on to earn a Master’s degree from CND and earned her teaching credential from CSULA. In the Summer of 2015, she traveled to Spain where she earned an additional Master’s degree from the Universidad de Salamanca.

Susana dedicated the majority of her teaching career to the students at Roosevelt High School. In addition to being a Spanish and Psychology teacher, she was also the advisor for a variety of organizations, including Students Run LA, Latinas Guiding Latinas and led an ongoing anti-tobacco campaign TUPE (Tobacco Use Prevention Education). When she was out of the classroom, Susana volunteered her time feeding the homeless at Dolores Mission and spent time with youth at juvenile facilities. Susana always challenged her students to expand their comfort zone and think outside the box. Her motto was "Your imagination is key to discoveries; there is a great big world out there...explore it!"

Susana Reynoso peacefully passed on February 18, 2016. She is survived by her parents, Dolores and Enrique Reynoso, her six siblings and twelve nieces and nephews.
